Subject: The improvement of CCNY’s laptop borrowing services for students on campus
Summary
As a full-time CCNY student who commutes, it can be difficult and costly to bring a laptop to school. I am writing this memo to humbly ask a request about improving technology services at CCNY and inform you of concerns regarding the availability of laptops that students on campus can borrow. I can also advise on some solutions, but ultimately, I hope the needs of the students who attend can be met with adequate relief.
discussion
As the demand for online classes increases and assignments and quizzes are now mainly online, the need for an inclusive learning experience also increases. With that inclusiveness in online classes, there is a need for quality laptop borrowing services. I would like to discuss how to further enhance a student’s academic performance while also keeping the cost at a reasonable level for all parties involved. At the current moment, the fee is $125, and the part-time fee is $62.5. Although the price technicalities are beyond my resolve, I’m sure that the price would have to be increased to a certain amount.
Solutions
The borrowing system should also monitor our use of time and reasoning for borrowing, and instead of solely relying on first come, first served, the urgency of assignments, quizzes, or online classes should also factor into how laptops are distributed.
- Higher-quality laptops and expanding inventory
- Monitor or factor in the reason for borrowing a laptop.
- Laptops with special specifications reserved for more important uses
- Collaborate with students to better understand their needs. This could be done in the form of surveys and evaluations.
Conclusion
At the expense of a school day, students may not bring or forget to bring their laptops to school. The borrowing services are adequate but could use improvements. The ways of improving CCNY’s borrowing services are through improving the process of borrowing laptops as well as generally improving the technology and capacity available. CCNY’s borrowing center should collaborate with students to not only better understand students’s needs but also spread knowledge of its usefulness.
